Date of Birth Number

a.k.a. Destiny Number, Life Lesson Number, Path Number, Birth Number, Personality Number

According to many sources, the Date of Birth Number is often said to be the most significant number in numerology. It reveals the development areas you face in this life. Julia Line explains in her book The Numerology Workbook (p.67) that the Date of Birth Number 'represents the lessons which have to be learned during the lifetime under analysis and indicates the path which should be taken in order to reach that particular goal'.

Calculating your Date of Birth Number is very straight-forward. Let's look at the example of someone who was born on 22 February 1942. The first step is to rewrite the date in numbers (where January = 1, February = 2, etc.). This gives us 22 2 1954. Now you add all the numbers together. Take a look at how it's done below:

Date of Birth Calculation - Sample

Normally, you would reduce the sum of the birth date to a single digital that falls between 1 - 9 (e.g. 27 would be reduced to 2 + 7 = 9), although remember that aside from working with the numbers 1 through 9, there are two Master Numbers (11 and 22) in Pythagorean Numerology. If your Birth Date Number is either of 11 or 22, you don't reduce the number any further.

Now, for the meaning! This is where a reputable numerology reference book comes in handy. Included below are some excerpts from various sources. This is where the esoteric blurs with the new age. Due to the numerous (mis)interpretations of the meanings of numbers that have circulated over the centuries, it's challenging to find the purest meaning without doing some digging. For now, here is some information for you to work with:

Date of Birth Number 22

Lessons to be learned: to find a way to challenge your capacity for achievement.
Path to take: by putting your skills and ideals into a broad and universal scheme, by spiritual healing, by founding new movements and watching them grow, by building and learning how to get round obstacles and problems.
Negative traits: easily side-tracked by minor details and liable to go off at a tangent.
Goal: to take charge of a large-scale operation and make it work both profitably and efficiently.
Suggested career: ambassador, government representative, mediator, business mogul, any work which is not only advisory but also in the public service.

Twenty-two is the most powerful of all numbers. It is often called the Master Builder. The 22 can turn the most ambitious of dreams into reality. It is potentially the most successful of all numbers. It has many of the inspirational insights of the 11, combined with the practicality and methodical nature of the 4. It is unlimited, yet disciplined. It sees the archetype, and brings it down to earth in some material form. It has big ideas, great plans, idealism, leadership, and enormous self-confidence. If not practical, the 22's waste their potential. Like the 11, the 22 can easily shrink from its own ambition, causing difficult interior pressures. Both the 11 and the 22 experience the pressure-cooker effect very strongly, particularly at an early age. It must work toward the realization of goals that are larger than personal ambition. The 22 serves the world in a practical way.

Not only is the full date of birth important, but there is also significance in the day on which you were born. In this example, the day of birth is 22. Also in Line's book, you can find a description of the meaning of each day. In this case, the 22nd influences the person to be balanced, realistic, caring and protective. On the other hand, it also stimulates egotistical and grasping tendencies and may also bring out a scatter-brained quality in the person. (Remember, each number has both positive and negative pulls.)
