Personal Year Numbers
As opposed to the Date of Birth Number that is fixed and that will stay with you throughout your entire life unchanged, the Personal Year Number changes each year on or around your birthday. When each new year starts for each of us is debatable, but the transition takes place each year some time up to 6 weeks prior to your birthday. The Personal Year Number gives you a glimpse of what's in store for you in the upcoming year. It is based on your birthday and not on the calendar year (as we know it). It's not as much about predicting the future as it is an indicator of what dominant vibrations will influence you most in the year of analysis. As it is believed that our lives are made up of 9-year cycles (remember the significance of the numbers 1-9 in numerology and the importance of learning the process through which a thought becomes a reality?), knowing your Personal Year Number will help you better understand the sort of progress you can make each year with your ongoing life projects.
The 9-year cycle through which we progress throughout our lives is a pattern. Patterns help us understand, accept, and advance...if we are willing to work with them. Patterns can also represent pain, repeated suffering and resistance. Knowing about the existence of patterns is very important because this knowledge empowers us to make different choices – more conscious choices. Ignorance is no defense! We have work to complete in this life. We can either do the work peacefully, or be dragged over broken glass, kicking and screaming. The result will be the same - fulfilling our contracts. It is your choice how you pursue your work.
I have found the following to be very true in my personal journey as it relates to the knowledge and resultant ability to work in cooperation with the 9-year cycle:
Understanding the Cycle of Nines within your life raises you above the forest on your life's journey so you can see beyond the bend of your life path. You will also find this understanding extremely helpful and enlightening when trying to cope with challenges or difficult decisions.
If we take a look at our example again, we can calculate a sample Personal Year Number. This calculation is done by taking the day and month of birth and matching them with the year of enquiry. For example, let's say it's 2009 and we want to know what our personal year has in store! Let's take a look below at what the calculation looks like:
Let's see what Line (p.136) tells us about Personal Year Number 8:
After the previous four years of gradual preparation, you are approaching the peak of this cycle. You should, by now, have learned how to use the freedom and independence which this year will bring in a responsible manner - especially where money is concerned. Full cyclic maturity is not reached until a Person Year Nine.
This is what some other sources have to say about Personal Year Number 8:
This year you can expect to reap the fruits of your efforts during the last seven years. If you worked hard, had focused purpose and applied real effort to your job or relationship, then this year will bring success and happiness. If, on the other hand, your life had (until this point) been loosely structured and you floated listlessly without purpose, passion, resolve or direction, the year 2009 could be frustrating, nerve wracking and filled with hardships, mental strain or loss of ground.
An (8) year is the paymaster; it will reward one only in direct proportion to the intention and effort expended. That is why the (8) is known as a KARMIC number... with it, the scales must balance. It gives back what you gave and sometimes with a bit more, if deserved. If you were organized, efficient, truthful and using good judgment fairly for all, you can expect advancement, recognition and achievement. The year will continue to demand great effort, but the reward will be well worth it. Since the (8) is the agent of the law of compensation, it will insist that you think of others as well as yourself. Selfishness and greed or power-hungry motives will turn on you and the life will be peppered with disappointment and loss. Remember this, it's nature's code of ethics and must not be violated.
This is definitely a year when one (who isn't happy personally) looks toward a possible ending of a relationship... business or personal. Best advice for the (8) year is... be efficient, work hard, try to transform yourself from formerly unacceptable habits and seek ways to secure clearer and happier circumstances.
If you've dreamed of improving your life or of going further (such as well as removing yourself from a marriage or relationship), then go do it. This is the year that Nature will supply the fuel, force and impetus for your emancipation. If you hesitate or feel uncertain, you'll miss the ideal moment for your total recreation. It's hard, I know, but it's the sweat and the effort (required by 2009) that ultimately make it all worth while.
The eight cycle year brings precisely those things that we have worked for, and that are deserved, nothing more, nothing less. The beauty of knowing the cycle is that there is a fruition to our years of effort, and now is the time to go and pluck the fruit. Each cycle year represents a stage in the growth of our ideas and plans. Each cycle also represents a lesson to be learned if there is going to be fulfilment in the harvest period.
Each eight cycle year as we move through life will bring further portions of our plans and dreams into fruition, all according to our effort and our intelligence. We will reap the good with the bad. This year brings strength and positivity. As you move through the year you will wonder that you really ever had any problems. This is so because the quality of ‘eight’ brings objectivity, more emotional control and a feeling of well-being.
As you move towards the middle of the year the cycle influence grows stronger, July and August being the best months of the year. Greater autonomy is linked to greater financial independence and this year brings the potential for increase. Make your demands, both in pay raises and job promotion. This is a good time to sell your business or to relax and plan ways of using your money more constructively.
It is not a time to start new projects, or to change careers unless you have been planning to do so for some time. Be careful about investing too much time or money in new ventures. Monetary investments should be short-term only. Remember that the one cycle is the time to begin anew. Next year in the nine cycle you should not be working hard, so seeding major changes this year could see you failing next year.
Now is the time to expect the unexpected, but also go and fight for what you want. This is also a time when ideas that you have been thinking about will become quite clear.
There is a sense of power in the eight cycle that should be used to draw people together, to build for the sake of life and others. The lesson this year is humility. There is a tendency to be overbearing and domineering this year. Humility is a power that comes through submission to another’s higher side, or the power to bring out the higher side in another. It is the lesson of detachment that can be learned this year. Follow the guidance for each month for the best times to make decisions.
This is your power year, a period when you can make important strides in you life. Coming after a very slow and introspective period (the personal year 7), you may start feeling some stirrings of ambitions. This is a year of big decisions and major achievements. Activity is your keynote now, and you will find yourself very much involved and occupied. Opportunities for advancement and recognition for past and current work is likely to come about during this year. You have things going for you so long as you take advantage and act. It is easy for you to branch out and expand in a businesslike manner. If you are at all inclined, this is the time to exude self-confidence and authority, because others will tend to be receptive to your leadership and control. Your power and status potential is at a peak of the nine years personal epicycle that concludes at the end of the next year.
Year 8 – Your Rewards: This is the year to pick up all of the rewards, recognition, powers, and money if you have done what was necessary in your previous years. Without, of course, having over-stepped your responsibilities for every of the last 7 years. You might have to deal with everything that you did not deal with before. If you have had any unfinished business from previous years it will now become more intensified and you will need really to deal with it. Eight is also karmic which I personally enjoy. I say karma because it forces us to face our own reality, and makes us work at it in order to understand it's lessons. As you will see 8 is like the sign of infinity sideways. This indicates that it will keep turning and turning and coming back to its original place. What I mean by this is that we all have patterns that we need to let go of. It's time to stop running over and over the "9 Year Cycle". Learning what we need to understand, and move on with our lives. If this year is very rewarding, it is in appreciation of your hard work. We should know better by now, and not take things, and your life for granted. Achievement vibrates this year. Opportunities for advancement will come your way if you have planned, organized, efficiently managed, and worked hard in the past to reach your goals. This is a year of abundance.
Negative aspects of the 8th year cycle – Do not try to hang on to the material things that have outlived their usefulness. Avoid dominance in your love life. Avoid trying to control, or domineer other people. Avoid being greedy.
The number eight is all about finances and business. The number eight influences us to want to fix issues in our lives, in our work, in our city, or even in the larger government. The number eight is associated with political skills, working for a cause, achieving recognition, commanding, deciding, and executive characteristics. These are all very strong traits. On a slightly more negative side, the number eight can be a workaholic, inhumane, impatient, stressed, and materialistic.
While the typical eight person can be forceful, decisive, accomplished, and good with money in general, he or she can be a spendthrift, lack feeling, and overly ambitious. Such individuals find it important to take control, strive to higher heights, seek power, and increase their status. You will likely find the number eight in almost any professional field or the operating officer of a business.
A person with a very high eight influence will not make an ideal worker. He or she will have more aptitude as a leader, organizer, or manager. People with very few eights may become frustrated and find it very difficult to achieve their goals.
During an eight month or year, you will be influenced to use whatever powers you currently have to make things better for those around you. You will pay more attention to social issues, financial issues, and political issues. Remember, the number eight is the “power” number, so money and success are usually partnered with it.
So, as you can see, it takes a bit of research to really begin to get a grasp of what each number means in their specific contexts. Find the sources that resonate most with you, and use the information that feels right to learn more about yourself using these tools.
As a side note, not only can you calculate your Personal Year Number, but you can also break down the year into three parts and evaluate what specific vibrations will impact you during each period of the upcoming year. Remember that the vibrations impacting each of the three parts of the year are tied closely to your Personal Year Number as a whole, so when analyzing your year in more depth, remember that all these numbers inter-relate and influence one another to varying degrees. You can also analyze your Person Year by month to paint an even more detailed picture of what is ahead for you!
Personal Year divided into 3
When dividing your Personal Year in three, you start from the month in which you are born and group that month plus the following four months together. This makes up the first of the three parts of your year. For example, using our sample birthday of 22 February 1942, the first part of the year takes place from February to June. The second division groups the months of June through to October together. The final grouping is October to February. Please take note that these divisions don't take place on fixed days. They represent gradual transitions, so it's up to you to use your intuition when determining when you feel the energy shift.
The next step is to calculate the numbers that will influence each of these three periods. To make the calculation for the first period, add your age in the year of enquiry (let's assume we're analyzing 2009) to the year of enquiry. Once you've found this number, reduce it to a single digit. So, if we take a look at our example, then the person who was born on 22 February 1942 will be turning 67 years old in 2009 (2009 - 1942). 67 + 2009 = 2076. Reducing this figure to a single digit gives us 6 - and this is the number that will provide an underlying current of influence for us from February to June in our upcoming Personal Year. Take a look at the calculations in more detail below:
To calculate the number that will influence the second part of your year, add your unreduced (double-digit) Date of Birth Number to the year of enquiry and reduce the answer to a single digit. The calculation for our sample birth date is given below:
Calculating the number influencing the final part of your Personal Year involves first figuring out your Vowel Number - a number that falls under the 'Numerology of Your Name' rather than the 'Numerology of Your Birth'. The sample name that we're using for our calculations is Penelope Potter. Her unreduced Vowel Number is 32 so the calculation will be adding this number to the year of enquiry. The detailed calculation is presented below:
Now you have a breakdown of the year and you can see the influencing vibrations with which you'll be dealing. To research the meaning of these numbers, you are free to explore the sources that have been quoted above, or seek out your own answers from different sources.
Personal Year divided into 12
You may also wish to break the upcoming year down by months to observe more closely what the prevailing vibrations have in store for you! I make this calculation once a year (just before my birthday - as a gift to myself) and then I make little notes to myself at the beginning of each month in my calendar. This way, every time a new month starts, I have a reminder of what vibrations I'll be dealing with that month. From a personal perspective, this method of self-analysis has helped me deal with challenges (because I've been more aware of my circumstances). It's given me tools to help me identify when key events were likely to take place, and enabled me to explain (to myself) the reason for certain experiences. Knowing that there are forces greater than us can sometimes be therapeutic! I've also been able to learn (through application of knowledge - through experience) the pure power of numbers.
In order to calculate the energies affecting each month, simply add the numeric value of the month (i.e. January = 1, February = 2, etc.) to the unreduced (double digit) Personal Year Number. The 2009 calculation for Penelope is provided below:
