Vowel Number

a.k.a. Soul Number or the Secret Self Number

In addition to being able to learn about yourself through the analysis of your birth numbers, you can also discover things about yourself and your life through the analysis of your name. Your name reveals your personal characteristics. Generally speaking, your first name represents your character whereas your surname reflects genetic information that influences you throughout your life. This source describes the first name as a sort of mantra - a repeated vibration that declares an intention each time it is called out - and something that is essential to the relationship we have with ourselves as it is with the way we connect to other people. Any name change is extremely significant as it alters the vibrations that influence your existence in this life.

Using numerology as an analytical tool, we can break down the name into three main numbers: The Vowel Number, the Consonant Number and the Whole Name Number. Let's take a look at the Vowel Number first.

The Vowel Number is representative of your hidden self. This is the part of you that you keep hidden from most of the outside world and only reveal to a few close friends and/or family members. The Vowel Number reveals the way in which you secretly like to see yourself.

In order to calculate your Vowel Number, first let's clarify what is defined as 'your name'. There is no clear rule about how to determine which name to use although it is recommended that you base your calculations on the name you use on a daily basis. So, for example, if you were given a middle name at birth but you never use it, you many choose not to include it in your analysis. If you married and changed your maiden name to your married name, you may want to consider analyzing both versions and taking a look back at how your maiden name influenced you before you married, as well as taking a look now at how your new name is impacting your life from an energetic perspective. You may even want to analyze all the versions of your name that you've had throughout your life and then reflect on how the numbers relate to your given experiences. It's up to you how detailed you want to get.

With what regards name changes, here's a Chaldean perspective:

The name assigned on your Birth Certificate along with the birthdate form your foundational blueprint for life. It's like an owner's manual that comes complete with a blueprint of characterisics, traits, develoment areas, strengths and weaknesses. The name reveals the "personal" characteristics/traits while the "birthdate" reveals the development areas. You can change your name many times over and chances are, you will no doubt change your characteristics from your birth chart. Since Numerology is a mathematical formula, it's possible that changing your name under the right set of circumstances will not change your foundational blueprint at all or the name change can either be slightly different or drastically different. It takes nine years for the new name to resonate 100%. In the meantime, if your name changes are drastically different from your birth name, there will be internal power struggles that you will not know is a result of the change. If the name change is compatible or slightly different, then the foundational blueprint remains dormant after nine years and the new bluerpint becomes the dominant force like any overay influence on top of your foundational blueprint.

With patience, understanding and knowledge, you can discover core characteristics about your personality through the analysis of your name. Perhaps you haven't yet been able to figure out what exactly makes you tick. Maybe you're facing a fork in the road and don't know which way to go to be happy. It's possible that by just learning a little more about yourself, you can discover your hidden talents and abilities. Who knows how your future could change if you became empowered with the ability to reveal hidden messages about yourself and those around you!

Calculating your Name Numbers is simple. Each letter of the alphabet is awarded a number. The chart below shows you the single-digital number associated with each letter of the English alphabet. (To reference letters from other alphabets, have a look at this site.) So for example, you can see from the chart that 'r' has a numeric value of 9 while 'd' has a numeric value of 4.

So, now to the calculation! To calculate your Vowel Number, simply write out your name, assign numbers to all the vowels, and add them up to a single digit (unless the double-digit number is either 11 or 22). Let's use the sample name Penelope Potter as an example:

Vowel Number - Sample Calculation

Vowel Number 5

Freedom, change and travel are the three ingredients in life for which your soul yearns but freedom is the most important - without this your other desires are impossible.

There is no one more unhappy and miserable than a number Five who feels trapped because he is unable to explore new situations and formulate new ideas which are so vital to his personal well-being. Fives need constant mental stimulation and travel, with its constantly change scenery and ways of life, provides them with the variety they seek. Fives cannot tolerate people with narrow outlooks and believe that life should be lived and experienced to the full. Negative Fives are dull and listless. They need major changes in their lifestyles to shake them out of their tedium.

People with vowel number 5 want to be adventurers and to follow a life of freedom, to discover uncharted territories and leave behind the mundane world. The idea of travel and freedom intrigues them, for life is too short to sit at a desk pushing papers, and they desperately want to escape it. They are not particularly concerned about the future or about getting ahead, and are forever opportunistic and optimistic.
